EXECUTION IN UTAH

MURDERER SHOT BY FIRING SQUAD.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)

(SYDNBI SUN CABLE.)

NEW YORK, 18th January. Omer Woods, a former Supreme Court Judge and one of the leading citizens of Utah, was executed in Salt Lake City by a firing squad at the State Penitentiary, protesting to the end his innocence of the murder of his wife.

The crime was a particularly brutal one, committed a year ago. The woman, who was heavily insured, was burned to death. Woods claimed that burglars beat him, killed his wife, and placed her body on a bed saturated with kerosene, which they set afire.
