LIFE SAVING
COMPETITION AT LYALL BAY.
Ideal weather conditions favoured the life saving competition held at Lyall Bay yesterday, in connection with Welcome Week. The displays, which were of a. very high order, were witnessed by a large gathering of interested spectators, the majority of whom spent the whole day on the beach. The Tramway Band provided music. Four separate events were comprised in the competition—march past, sevenman run-out, surf race, and four-man run-out. In each event 100 points was the maximum, the winning team being that with the highest aggregate. Lyall Bay came first with 382 points, Maranui second with 372, Worser Bay third with ■xO, and Island Bay, the only other contestant, scored 344 points. Details follow; L.B. M. W.B. 1.8.
