A MARQUESS MIDDLE-WEIGHT.

' The Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale, coached, by Dick Smith, won on points a six-round boxing contest iv Bermondsey Town Hall against E. R. Lucas, one of the best amateur middleweights. The Marquess was cheered by thousands of dock workers. He is sturdily built, and declares that it is his ambition to become champion and be selected for the Olympic team. Lucas said the Marquess's body punches were terrific, and he was the better man. (SIDNEY SUN CABLE.) (Received 21st January, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, 20th January. The Duchess of Hamilton, watching her son fight, said : "Why cannot we return to the Viking days, when tribal disputes were settled by fights between picked men? If we could choose a hundred boxers from each side and let" tliem decide it would be much better than the present system of dreadful war and terrible bloodshed." The Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale is eldest son and heir to the present Duke of Hamilton, who is the thirteenth of that title. The title was created iv 1711. The Duke of Hamilton is the premier peer of Scotland, and is hereditary keeper of Holyrood Palace Earl of Angus (created 1389), Baron Hamilton (1445), arl of Arran (1603), Marquess of Hamilton (1683), Marquess of Clydesdale, Baron of Aven, Polmout, Machanshire, and Innerdale Baron of Abernethy and Jedbrugh Forest (1645) Baron Dutton (Great Britain, 1711 l' Duke of Chatelherault (France, 1518), as well as holder of minor titles. The Duchess of Hamilton, who is the yuoneest daughter of Major R. Poore, of OIJ Lodge, Salisbury, married the Duke in 1901. She is a member of a famous athletic family, which has taken part iv many sports.
