MAGISTRATES COURT
Mr. C. B. Orr-Walier, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day, when one first offender for drunkenness was ordered to forfeit the'amount of his I bail, 10s. A young carpenter named Arthur I [ George Hugh Hughes, was fined £2, in | default three days' imprisonment for com-' mitting a grossly indecent act. He was also cqnvicted of insobriety and discharged. William Harrison Cowie, a labourer 45 years of age, was remanded until lhuifsday on the charge of stealing apipe and tobacco pouch valued £1 Is 6d from Ngawaka Pirihi. Bail was fixed at £15. On a charge of stealing an overcoat worth £5 10s, Jamei Ward was remanded till the 25th January on bail of £15. Described as a recent arrival from Scotjand, a labourer named William : Cant was sentenced to seven days' impnsqnment for drunkenness, and 14 days' imprisonment for obscene exposure the terms to be concurrent. Senior-Sergeant Power said that this was the accused's firth Appearance since he o»nje to New : Zealand.
