WELLINGTON MEETING
TRENTHAM TRAINING GALLOPS

The weather was favourable for training operations at Trentham this morning. Most of the horses engaged at the meeting put in an appearance,' ' and some interesting try-outs took place. The trial grass was available,, and with the exception of one or two—who went on the tan—all the work was done on it- ' '''... Merit, alone, ran half a mile in 50sec, pulling up all right. Basso (C. Reed)-and .gunshot (J. -Brodie) were in the'order named at the end of six furlongs in lmin 18 l-ssec. ■Peach Brandy (Evans) was ahead of Black Rod (Rosewarne) over six furlongs, the last five taking lmin 6sec. Piquant (A. Reed) appeared to hold Glimpse (C. Reed) safely in running half a mile on the tan in 52sec. Star Ranger was finishing better than Laughing Stock over six furlongs *in lmin 17sec. Gloaming, ridden by G. Young,. was cantered a circuit on the tan. He afterwards went on the grasST-j-well out against the rails—and pleased His trainer by cutting out the last half mile in 4Bsec./ which' was the best of the morning;over■ the distance. He is.nice and bright in the coat, has settled down quietly, and it looks as if he will come back. . Bayana came right away from Carawock at the finish of seven furlongs in lmin 32sec. Lake pVu headed Vindictive at the end of six' furlongß, negotiated in lmin 19sec. ■ - Quest finished in front of Slump ,at the erfcl of half a mile covered in.slsec. . Highland (A. Reed) hit out well in a circuit, but was not asked to go against time.. . ] \ ■? -■';'■ ;" Parody went about six furlongs alone, but was not oh a' time-breaking mission.' Bright Eyes and Ares slipped over half a mile in 50sec. ..'■'.".■ Palestrina was about three lengths ahead of Gay Juliet in running six furlongs in lmin 18sec. ' ''- Nigger Minstrel and Queen's March were together at .the end of half a mile in 49'1-56ec. The two-year-old is a good galloper. '■'■'•'■■• , ' • '■"'; Tnkia (M. M'Carten) had no difficulty in holding Glenross (J. Barry) over half a milo in 51sec. • ■■ ; ' Muraalii was in front of Rag., Fair at the end of six furlongs' covered in lmin 22sec. V . Stream (C. Butler) and Last Crust' (J. Ramsden) were fairly equally matched over a mile which took lmin' 45 2-ssec to leave behind. ' Gay Queen, alone, slipped over four furlongs in 51sec. >■ . . . . . Degage, Pleasant Surprise, and Pantry Maid Were in. the order named at the end of half a mile in 51 2-56ec. Enthusiasm (J. Barry) went a mile, taking lmin 29s'eo from the seven furlongs post—a good gallop. ■ ' Kilmirisier and Jackeroo did well to get to the end of six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec. ; .;.. . . . , . Motley was out looking well, but was not asked to gallop fast. Civility, Filelte (who moved short), Siaosi, and other over-night .arrivals put in an appearance before'breakfast. ; '■' White ■ "Comet" left- five "furlongs behind in lmin ssec, without any apparent difficulty.', . ' ' - :: Diamond Ring and Bagdad were associated over seven furlongs, finishing in the order named in lmin 31sec. ■ ■ After breakfast Loughrea did aclpuple of rounds, the last half-mile at a good working pace. Mantua improved the pace to the four furlongs and ran home in 51aec comfortably. ... "' ■ • ' Manchester, alone, left six furlongs behind in lmin 21sec. Backsheesh was better than Rene Mavis in running four furlongs in 49sec. Roseday (A. H. Wilson) cantered a couple of rounds, but was not allowed to go fast. ■■-'•. . F: D.
