ATHLETIC TEAM FOR HOBART
TO THE BDITOB.
Sir,—l trust you will allow me space to voice the views of a large number of athletes and supporters of the sport respecting the appointment of a manager , for the New Zealand, team in the forthcoming Australasian championships. It is obvious to anyone who takes thought to consider the matter tnat it is j j highly desirable, if indeed it is.not esI sential, that the, team should include a i member who can train, massage, and rub j the athletes, in addition to carrying out the purely managerial duties appertain-, ing to the position. Mr. Davies would, I am sure, be the first to admit his limitj ations with respect to the knowledge and j experience required of a trainer. When Mr. Davies intimated that he was unable to make the trip, the council had an opportunity of selecting a man as manager who would be able to combine what are suggested above as being the essential qualifications for the position. It is singular that there is such a lack of suitable men available on the council or outside of it who are fitted to carry out the duties of* manager and trainer satisfactorily. Doubtless Mr. Davies himself realises what is required, and it is to be hoped that he will maintain his present attitude and assist the council to appoint as manager an experienced man who will be able to devote part of his time to the training and fitting of ourrepresentatives and assisting them to achieve the triumphs and success for which we all hope.—l am,^etc, ATHLETIC FOLLOWER. 17th January.
