COST OF EDUCATION

It costs a tidy penny to educate the youngsters of New South Wales. Figures have just been made available which show that the money spent on education in New South Wales during the regime, of the Fuller Government exceeds by far the annual expenditure in that direction by any previous State Administration since lSll. The education bill in 1922 totalled £3,698,563, which works out at an annual cost per pupil of a shade over £12. In the same period close on half a million was spent on new buildings, additions, renovations, and school sites, and in the loan estimates for the year ending 30t,h June next the Government has made provision for the expenditure of another half

a million for new school buildings. The cost of education per pupil in this State has risen from £6 Os 5d in 1911 to £12 2s 9d in 1922, and last year the amount was probably bigger still.
