A NOVEL SIDESHOW ATTRACTION during Welcome Week Carnival will be the Tvotting Ostrich, Big Ben, in his racing sulky. Big Ben, is a beautiful Specimen of the South Africanbred Ostrich, standing, 9ft '-high. Born on the burning veldts of the Transvaal (South Africa) Big Ben has had a wide and varied career, during his 12 years of life. After spending four years on an ostrich farm he was picked out on account of his splendid physique and feathering for the motion picture business, where he was broken 'to harness and taught the racing game. Since Big Ben was purchased from the Vitagraph Picture People he- has taken part in 81 speed contests, suffering defeat on one occasion only. That defeat was by the world-famous eprinter, Donaldson, known as the Blue Streak, in a 75yda dash on the Durban (South Africa) Racecourse, in the presonce o£ 18,000 peoplo.. Big Bon has raced in every country in the world1 against human beings, trotters, gallopers, whippets and greyhounds.
