LOWERED YESTERDAY IN SYDNEY

' SYDNEY, This Day. Tho struggle between "Boy" Charlton and Arne Borg attracted five thousand spectators, and hundreds were unable to obtain admission. It. was generally considered that the Swede would win tho shorter event. At the end of the first lap of tho hundred metres race he was leading by three yards, but Charlton overtook the visitor midway in the second lap and, after a stirring neck to neck fight, drew away and won by a yard and a half. The winner clipped 2 2rssec off the Australian record established last January by \\ r. Harris, the Hawaiian swimmer. Arne Borg equalled Harris's time.

During the evening F. W.. Bayldon, of Sydney University, broke the furlong breaststroke Australian record, defeating the holder (R. Chalmers) in 3min 13 3-sscec.

At Manly, a team of five swimmers broke the five-hundred yards flying squadron record by two seconds, the time being 4min 56 4-ssec.
