PEACE ATTAINED

THE LAUSANNE SETTLE-

MENT

PRINCIPLES AGREED UPON

PAYMENT OF OTTOMAN DEBT.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)

-- (REUTER'3 TELEGRAM.) LAUSANNE, 9th July

A peace agreement has been reached. Ismet Pasha, after the meeting, told the journalists that agreement had been reached on all points. He declared, "It is peace." . . . A communique states that an agreement in principle has been reached on the three outstanding questions—the currency in which interest on the Ottoman debt is payable, concessions, and the evacuation of Turkish territory. (Received 10th July, .11 a.m.) _ LAUSANNE, 9th. July. Agreement -in principle was arrived at on the following basis:—The Allies have agreed to refrain from insistence upon the currency in which the Ottoman debt shall be paid, without, however, such attitude precluding them from maintaining the principle that private contracts j between Turkey and her creditors cannot be modified except by.agreement between Turkey and the Ottoman bondholders. On the question of concessions, the agreement recognises contracts made before 29th October, 1914. The agreement also restores the war materiaf belonging to the Turks which has fallen into Allied hands.
