INCREASES IN MANY ITEMS

ROUND FIGURES FOR THE YEAR

Provision has been made by the City Council, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, for considerable increases in several items on the estimates for the year 19523-24. For instance, it is anticipated thai- street works will cost £70pO more than during tho year 1922-23, scavenging and street watering £1400, the collection and destruction of refuse £2500, the fire brigades S27CO, city reserves £3000, Town Hall renovation £1485, the Zoo £500, superannuation, various special works in the city £3500, and. on top of all waterworks £13,200.
