HOSPITAL v. SCOTTISH WANDERERS.

Hospital and Scottish Wanderers met a.t Porirua, on a very heavy ground, and a rather drab game ended in Hospital winning by 1 goal to nil. Hospital • won ( . the toss, and their opponents kicked off- against a strong sun._ Hospital at once took up the of, tensive, and Gibson forced a corner, which was well cleared by Hogan. Daily ahd: Gibson were again prominent, but the former's kick went behind. A ran by Nicolle and S. Kirkland was stopped by Shaw, whp took a:long shot at goal. The ball was partially caught by Kirtla»d, who failed to hold it, the ball going, into the net. Hospital 1-0. The Wanderers, in a great rush, in which all the forwards participated, almost went through, Trewick knocking down a shot from Houston and Gibb clearing. Lambert and Gibson took play back again, and Dick sent in a fine shot which the goalkeeper did well to clear. The pressure was-kept up, and -Hughes and Thompson both tried,' but the best that could be obtained was a. fruitless corner. .. ;.

A period of line play followed, which proved very dull, and the visitors, led by G. Arbuthnott, then made a strong movement towards their ■ opponents' Roal, and Bradshaw sho.t, but Gibbran in and gave a corner. . Wild shooting spoilt their chances. Hospital forwards theii' made a good attack, but Daily* centre went begging. The visitors returned to the attack, and Trawick was called on to save a great shot from Nicolle.- Almost immediately Kh-kland was through, and this time Trewick' was rather lucky in clearing his goal;: ; The game was fast enough, but there was an absence of combined play by both teams, except at rare intervals'. The' rushes .of the town team 'always looked dangerous, but Ferguson and Gibb were very safe backs'. Hughes, Dick, and Daiiv were prominent in a passing bout, and Jiirkland came out of 1 goal, but Hughes, missed the opportunity. A few minutes later Hughes had another opportunity, but shot wide. Towards the end of the spell Hospital combined much better, but. could not break through. They re-arranged .their forwards on resuming, and although that did not bring success, they had the better of the P ,?•* Pi 6 sitors attacked; and being well fed by M'Dougall and Logic, played good football, but were repulsed by the strong defence. A great rally by the home forwards ended in Kirkland saving well. Hospital were now playin^ much better football,, and strong at* tacks were kept up, which, however could not penetrate tho defence. Kirkland was playing a fine game in goal' and was ably assisted by Small and Logan. A run by Daily, Dick, and" laterson ended in the former putting; across T the goalmouth, but Gibson and then Lambert both missed the chance Jiirkland saved several more shots in capital stylo till a' breakaway by Houston and Bradshaw removed play, but the attack' ended in wild' shooting, a^ fault of both teams. . -

As .tnne drew near,- both teams made an erfort to improve their positions, and Play became exciting and-1 strenuous. Xhe home team; had much the better of the play,- but the breakaways of Wanderers forwards were always dangerous .but time arrived with Hospital attacking and the score unaltered. Mr. B. Martin' refereed. .-■•"■
