MELBOURNE, Bth July. On the opening day of the. Victoria Racing Club's Steeplechase Meeting, the following was the result of the
GRAND.NATIONAL HURDLE RACE, a sweepetakes of- 15 soys each, with 1750 soys hdded; three miles. Berrinbo, by Ritualist—Equalise, 9.6 (H.Thompson) 1 Bendoe, by Sharpshooter—Tongaroo, 9.6 (Inkson) .*...:... 3 Jackstaff, by Sea Prince—Flbrenz, 9.10 (Reid) 3
There were eleven starters. Muecular and Gulyarri were first away, with Jackstaff neSt. Minemar led into the straight, where Brownlond went to the front, but was displaced by Loja, who kept thelead to the three-£urlong post in the last round. Then Berriubo took charge, and led at the last hurdle from Miuemar, Loja, and Jackstaff. Bendoo came fast' in the run home, but was beaten by thres lengths. Time, 6min l£sec.
