DEADLOCK AT PAPAROA
MINERS STILL ON STRIKE.
The 120 miners at the Paparoa mine who went on strike last week are still standing, out, an da sboth sides appear be ; adamant, the point at issue will have to lie thrashed put before work can be resumed. The dispute between.the management of the company and the Miners' ""Union, which resulted in the stoppage of work, concerns a. clause in the Arbitration Court's award providing that men shall do their own trucking in isolated places at the special rates provided. The men ■contend that the management is seeking to apply the provisions of the award in cases to which it was not intended they should apply when the award was made. The company contends, however, that the provisions, of the award cover the places which are now in dispute, and that the present application of the award does_not depart in any. way from the establish custom i n West Coast mines.
