MELBOURNE, This Day. A deputation of master builders asked Mr. A. Chapman, Minister of Trade and Customs, to remove the duty on slates, as the extra cost of tiles since the formation of the tile combine was responsible for a considerable increase in the cost of houses. Mr. Chapman promised, to refer the request to the Tariff Board, and added that if the board was satisfied that the combine was acting in restraint of trade, the duty would be reduced. J'
