TRAGEDY AT ORAMAHOE
MAORI WOMAN SHOT DEAD.

AUCKLAND, 16}t_r August. Meagre details of a tragedy which occurred atOramahoe, near Ohaewai, were received in a telegram by the superintendent of police to-night. The telegram stated that the victims were two old Maori people, a woman, Meareana Takemoana. being shot dead, and her husband, Kemaera Haratua, receiving one bullet in the breast and two in tho left arm. The old man, who has been removed to the hospital, stated that at dusk on Thursday evening the barking of his dogs caused him to run outside, but a strange Maori, who was coming down the hill towards the hut, instantly shot at him and wounded him. The woman then came out of the hut and was shot dead.
