The drastic action of the leagues of consumers is having unexpected serious results. Many retailers are shutting their shops, and wagon-loads of perishables have been returned already to the congested depots.
["Leagues of consumers" have recently been formed in Paris for the suppression of profiteering by shopkeepers. Among the methods adopted by them was that of making a tour of the shops, comparing the selling prices with the market vates, and reporting cases of unfair-profit-making to the authorities.]
