ILL-TREATMENT OF KUT PRISONERS
FRATEL' GIVES EVIDENCE. (UNIIED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT,) (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLB ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 11th August. Fratel, the Euraeian official who is accused of ill-treating British prisoners from Kut-el-Amara, gave evidence that he was not responsible for the hospital system in BagtsclnS, which was under Turkish control. The Germane and Turks twice beat hini for showing kindness to the British, and threatened to make him a railway navvy if ho quitted the hospital in order to attend to the British. He worked fourteen hours daily, though suffering from fever, aud had no control of the mortuary, while he agreed to the conditions.
