Whatever th? cause, prospective amalgamation with, or sale to, some other line, the ordinary shares of the Huddart-Parker Proprietary have shown an extraordinary rise in price during tho past few days. Sales were made on the Wellington Stock Exchange to-day at £2 8s Od and £2 83 9d. In May ; last they were sold at £2, and they hovered in the vicinity of £2 is and £2 2s to early in June, when they appreciated in value by Is, easing back to £2 2s before the end of that month, Melbourne and • Dunedin having manifested a keen interest in" this stock. They started to rise from tin Ist July, when sales were made in Wellington at £2 3s, and on the 3rd July at £2 4s. Xho upward movement was then arrested, and on 14th July they were back to sellers £2 3s 6d,» and they roso and fell 3d alternate days;changing hands at £2 48, as recently as Bth',. August, since when they have advanced in.price to sales at £2 8s 9d. . ■ ■ U
