Three first offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual manner by Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, this morning. Thomas Austin, a third offender, was fined £1, in default '48 f hours in gaol, for drunkenness. Walter John Hamilton, who on 6th August was caught in the act of carrying a rug, valued at 255, from a boardinghouse where he had been staying, explained 'that he had unwisely embarked on a drinking bout and attempted to commit '■ the theft while under the influence of ' liquor.
