A certified copy.of the Amir's ,o._ers to the commander of the. Afghan eastern army, and presumably to the other commanders, suites that "according to information received from the Government of India," fighting had occurred owing to some misunderstanding, with the Indian Government. He was; therefore, ordering the commander to suspend hostilities until the door of communication was opened., _"As wo have no intention of fighting with this old frind of ours, and were obliged to take defensive measures, now. that he, also desires peace, we order and command you to keep back your regular troops and tribes, for whom we are responsible, and await further orders."
The letter adds : "You should, however, keep in view defensive and offensive operations while awaiting the result of the discussion between the Indian and Afghan Governments." Tlie order is dated 27th May.
