Shareholders' of the Waikato Shipping Company held their second annual meeting recently at Hamilton. It was pointed out in the report that, although the balance-sheet did not show any immediate profit, the company's possibilities were enormous, and it was a sound financial proposition. In a subsidiary report it was stated that they were not running with sufficient capital. During the year's trading the cost of material had increased enormously. ■ Distillate alone, which before the war conid be bought at 13s Od a ease, had averaged 30s this year. But, although the costs had been doubled, the freights had not increased more than .20 per cent. It was also pointed out that in taking over tlie company had incurred contracts for the shipping of milk, cream, coal, and other commodities, which were at present being run at a loss, and these could not be altered until the existing contracts run out. The balance-sheet showed no depreciation on plant, as over £000 had been spent in repairs and upkeep, and their plant was in a better condition than at the end of the pre vious year. A large amount of trade had been lost through lack of capital, as more sheds and landing wharves were required. KAMONA FOR AUCKLAND. .
