A RECORD CROWD.

(Received June 5, 2.30 p.m.)

LONDON, 4th June. There was a record crowd at the Derby. Hundreds of Australian and New Zealand soldiers motored to the course. Tha Royal Party, which ■ travelled by train and drove from Epsom had a cordial reception. The cheers were renewed an hour later when Viceroy won the Stewards' Handicap. Light showers at midday tended tp make the dry ground treacherous, but did not spoil the comfort of the visitors. Donoghue (9.4) rode Viceroy, and there were nine runners. This was the first time the King had at tended a race meeting or entered a horse since the war. The Panther's restlessness delayed the start for the Derby. He got, away badly and was never prominent.
