SETTLING SOLDIERS ON THE LAND
(BI TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WHAKATANE, This Day. Much indignation at the delay in settling soldiers on the land was expressed at the Whakatane County Returned Soldiers' Association reunion, at which about 100 were present. Mr. M. Douglas complained that, although the Woodlands Estate at Opotiki was ready, no soldiers were being settled there, yet. Mr. W., C. Roberts, president of the Whakatane .Agricultural Association, said the Government appeared to be tied hand and foot by red tape.. He advocated local boards for settling soldiers on the land. It was resolved: "That this meeting strongly urges upon the Government the necessity of quickly opening up the various lands in this county for settling returned soldiers."
