LOWER HUTT SITTINGS
The monthly sitting of the Lower, Hutt Magistrate's Court was held to-day before Mr. W G. Riddell, S.M Amy Riggin was fined 40s, in default, seven days' imprisonment for the theft of leadlights and other goods from an unoccupied house in , Normandale. The defendant explained' that she thought the goods were of no value, and left behind by the last tenant. For breaches of prohibition orders, J. W. Preece, L. Hobbs, a*id S. Sauhders were each fined 40s, with 7s costs. The last named defendant was also ordered to pay.costs only for being on licensed pre r misee during the currency of his order. George M'Ghie, for being on licensed premises during prohibited hours was fined 40s and 7s costs. Joseph Meo, Norman Hughes, and F. VI. Neal, for driving motor-cars on the wrong side of the road were each fined 20s, with 7s costs. J. G. O'Donovan, for driving a motor-car without lights after dark was fined a similar amount. Failing to parade for military purposes cost L. F. W Anson, P. Coffey, E: Glennie, B. Gwilliam, and R. Lusty 5s each, with 7s costs. J. F. Nyhan was fined 10s with 7- costs for a similar offence. R. Shiel was ordered to pay 7s costs only. F. E. Winnie was ordered to pay 7s 6d per week for tho support of each of two illegitimate \ children, and £4 4s maternity expenses. For failing to send their children to school regularly, Albert Baker, Thomas Collins, H. Pilcher, F. Gorrie, and, E. Mawson were each ordered to pay 5s with 7s costs. Wandering stock cost defendants as follow : P. N. Cameron, J. E, Croft, F. Meyrick, each 10s and costs, and the last defendant was fined 5s with costs on a further similar charge; C. Cunningham 20s and 7s costs, E. 'Rawlinson, F. Twomey, G. W. yon Zeidlitz, B. Williams, and S. K. Shaw, 5s each with 7s costs. The last named on a further charge 'was ordered to pay costs only 7s. For riding cycles without lights after dark, A. Denniston, E. Haggart, and W. 6. Saunders were fined, ss, with 7s costs. For riding a motor-cycle without a light, A. Glading was fined 10_ with 7s costs, and for driving a civ-rt without a light G. Graham was ordered to pay 5s with 7s cost.. For driving a motorcar with dazzling headlights C. W. Brown had to pay 10s. with 7s costs. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following civil cases:—R. Barto-h v. A. Rice, £7 .30.., and costs 15s 6d ; W. L, Jenness v. Charles Thomas, £9 12s, and £1 3s 6d costs; Gadsby Brothers v. J. A. Crighton, £4 9s Brj, and 5s costs; Albert E. "W. O. Brooks ,v. R. Dunstall, £5 4s 6d, and possession of a tenement within one month.
