"THE CHILD AND THE SCHOOL"

"The School and the Child" was the .-subject of an address delivered at the Maranui Church Hall last evening under the auspices of the Lyall Bay Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, by Miss Kngland. The lecturer dealt comprehensively with many of the evils of the Dominion's educational system,. particularly as regards the overcrowding of classes. . She stated that in Denmark no ilass had more than 29 pupils, the object "being to give the teacher ah opportunity of paying personal attention to those under his or her care. The Danish system of education provided for three classes of school-—one for those who showed special ability, another for normal children, and a third for sub-nor-mal children. For the latter class of school special teachers were appointed. As the children showed- greater aptitude the}' were promoted into a school for normal children. New Zealand had much to learn in educational matters generally.
