SECRETARY AND REFEREE
RUGBY OFFICIAL'S ACTION.
Quite a stir was. caused in Eugby football circles this morning by the publication of the following report l — "Owing to the'action of the chairman of the Wellington Rugby Football Union in notifying Mr. T. H. Jones (lion, secretary of the Wellington Rugby Union) that an informal meeting held yesterday morning requested his withdrawal as referee in the Maori match, Mr. Jones is resigning the hon. secretaryship of the union. At the chairman's suggestion, Mr. Jones referred his appointment as referee in the match to the weekly meeting of the Referees' Association on Monday night, when the appointment was confirmed. It is stated that the matter was not ,1-aised at an official meeting with the 'Maori managers at 9.30 a.m. yesterday, but that on reaching home later Mr. Jones was informed by Mr. W. F. Hornig of the above request. It is understood that of the eleven members of the executive, the following were not present at the informal meeting :— Messrs. J. Prendeville, J. N. Millard, W. W. Coad, E. H, Ward, G. Jackson, H. Buck, and W. H. Donovan." When questioned by a Post reporter, Mr. Hornig stated that he had no announcement to make on the subject, but it would doubtless be discussed at the meeting of the Management Committee to-night. "The newspaper report," he said, "was the first intimation I and other members of the committee re- j ceived. The resignation has not been received by any member of the Management Committee." As to the accuracy of 'the report, Mr. Hornig stated that in some respects the details were iiot correct. Beyond that he would make no statement until to-night's meeting.
