AFGHANS WELL EQUIPPED

LONDON, ,22nd May (delayed). Large forces of 'Afghans are facing the British expedition. The Afghan regulars, being well armed and well equipped in every way, are formidable adversaries. Tho British concentration of forces east of the Kbyber is proceeding steadily. The Amir's attempts to raise the border tribes has generally failed, though some are wavering. Owing to desertions, the British have disbanded the Khyber Rifles. The British representative at Kandahar has reached Quetta. He says that a jehad (a holy war) is being vigorously preached.
