WAZIRISTAN ENTERED
FAINT-HEARTED ATTACKS.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COP-RIGBT.) (RENTER'S TELEGRAM.) SIMLA, Ist J.une. The Afghan General, Nadir Khan, has entered the Wa_iristan tribal territory along three routes, with Afghan regulars and 36 guns. Their attacks on our posts wero faint-hearted. They failed to make any impression, contenting themselves with long-range sniping. Evidently thoy are uncertain on which side the Waziris' sympathies lie. The nine-pouncter guns used by the Afghans in recent skirmishes have very little destructive effect. The is no chance of the enemy reaching Bannu or Kohat). Our concentrations are proceeding rapidly. The Afghan troops lied, from Birkot, and our advance continues. Measures have been taken to punish the villagers at Utinanzai, 20 miles from Peshawar, where the ringleaders of a dangerous intrigue were arrested. This has had a quietening effect in Peshawar.
