According to the London correspondent of the Auckland Herald, the Wahine was to pro-' ceed to Dumbarton about the 18th April to be reconditioned by her builders (Denny Bros.), preparatory to being returned to her owners, the Union Steam Ship Company. The work is expected to occupy about four months. DELAY TO MARAROA. Last evening the ferry steamer Mararoa was to have left Wellington for Lyttelton at 7.45 o'clock,, but was delayed until 8.30 owing to two firemen having absented themselves. Two substitutes were obtained, and the vessel sailed.- . THE WHAKATANE'S PROGRAMME. . The overhaul of the liner Whakatane at - Port Chalmers will probably be completed about the end of next week. She will load frozen meat and general cargo at Port Chalmers for Home, and' will later visit Timaru to • take in additional cargo. From Timaru the Whaka tane will come to Wellington, and she will sail finally for London, via Panama, towards the end of June. ANDREW WEIR LINE. ' The Andrew Weir Company recently purchased three new steamers from the Imperial Government. The vessels are of the singledeck type,/ and 'are of 11,000 tons each. The names selected for them are Luceric, Orteric, and Foreric. They have a speed of 11 knots. Two smaller vessels of 8200 tons each have also been acquired, and have been named Aymeric and Tymeric. The purchasing of these five vessels is responsible for the addition of 49,000 tons to the company's fleet. D'URVILLE ROCK. y . Some months ago the beacon . marking D'Urville Rock, in the Hauraki Gulf, was broken by heavy seas, and it will not be reerectect owing to the difficulty of fitting a concrete cup on the rock to support the beason. A buoy now marks the site of the rock, as on Friday tho Hinemoa placed a large iron cone buoy, painted black, in eight fathoms, at a distance of one cable's length west (correct magnitude) of the rock. This, mark will be permanent. THE WESTMORELAND. It is reported by .a southern exchange that the inspection by the diver of the hull of the Westmoreland disclosed extensive denting of the plating on both sides of the keel. In addition, the removal of a number of the plates for straightening will be necessary. The exact amount of damage to be made good cannot be ascertained until the steamer is inspected in dock, when it will be decided whether any of the framing will require renewing. DUNEDIN HARBOUR. A special resort from the Dunedin Harbour Board's engineer, on the necessary dredging required to give at least 35ft or 40ft of water at low tide from the Heads to Port Chalmers, has been received by the board. The engineer estimated that a 300 ft channel, with a minimum depth of 35ft, could be completed in five and a half years at a cost of _55,000. This was tho smallest width the harbourmaster .thought safe. If towards the end of the five and a half years it. was thought advisable to widen and deepen further it would bo for the board of that day to decide. The board held the matter over for further inquiry. . The liner Rimutaka, at present discharging at the Clyde-quay Wharf, is to leave Wellington on tho 12th June for Whakatane, Poverty Bay, and Gisborne to load for Home ports. Sho will later come back to Wellington to complete loading. The Royal Dutch Packet steamer Reggaveen, now at Auckland, is a sister ship to the Barentsy, recently at tho northern port. The officers are Dutch, and tho crew are Japanese. The vessel's registered tonnage is 4687 gross; she Is capable of steaming 14 knots, and has accommodation for 72 first class passengers. . Tho steamer Hunsbrook, which arrived at' Newcastle tccently from Suez, via Bunbury, to lake in bunker_, is in command of Captain Chisholm, who was last there in 1902 in the barque Tolly Woodside. The vessel is now known as the Rona, and has been despatched from Newcastle for'-W-Uinston-with a cargo of coal.
