VICE-REGAL. The Earl of Loverpool has been officially informed that his term as Gover-nor-General of New Zealand has been extended until June, 1920. His Excellency was sworn in and assumed office on 19th December, 1912. He has now occupied tha position of His Majesty's representative here for six and a-half years, so that when he retires next Juno he will have held the office for seven and a-half years—a record for New Zealand.
I The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald and the Hon. J. A. Hanan are on a' visit to the South Island. The- Hon. W. H. Herries, who left for Auckland yesterday, is expected to return to Wellington at the j end of the week. :' Captain J. G. Coates, M.C., and M.P. for Kaipara, was recently accorded an enthusiastic welcome home at a public gathering at HelensviUe. Lieutenant F. G. Matthews, who has recently returned from active service, has been granted the. honorary rank of captain while employed as private secretary to the Minister of Defence/ the position ■he occupied before he went to the front. Captain C. E. Blayney,' late squadron commander, Royal Air Force, has been appointed to the charge of the motor department of the N.Z. Fanners' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., Wellington, and will take up his duties about the middle of this month. The Rev. AY. . M'Ara has resigned after 41 years as minister in charge of the Kaikoura parish. Appreciation of the work done by Mrs M'Ara, has been recorded by the Nelson Presbytery, and it has decided to ask the General Assembly to grant him the status of minister Emeritus, with a seat on the church' courts. Mr. C. H. Howarth, consulting engineer, of Wellington, and an. artist of repute, left for England and America by the lonic last week, accompanied by Mrs. Howarth. It is his intention to give exhibitions of his paintings of New Zealand scenery (chiefly scenes of the Mount Cook district, the Wanganui River, and the thermal regions) in London and New York, and with that end in view he has taken with him a large and thoroughly representative collection of his works. Those present at the funeral of the late Mr. Edward Anderson yesterday afternoon included: Messrs. E. Millward Anderson, Norman Anderson, Sehvyn Anderson, and Maurice Anderson, • sons of the deceased, Messrs. W. H. Millward, R. Wilberfoss, and T. F. Martin, brothers-in-law, and Messrs. David and Ernest Anderson, nephews. The Rev H. Payno, of Kelbum, officiated at the graveside,- and the service in St. Peter's Church was conducted by the Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott), assisted by the Venerable Archdeacon Watson. A number of clergy were present in the body o£ the church, including Canon Fielden Taylor, the Venerable Archdeacon Johnson, and the Rev. Alfred Williams, cf the Maori Mission. Mr. S. B. Shortt played the Funeral March.
