NAPIER, 31st May. At the inquest on tlie prisoner Peat, who died ill hospital, the medical evidence was to the effect that the prisononer suffered from basal meningitis, which was not infectious, and not cerebro spinal meningitis, and that until the dise&es was far advanced it was very difficult to diagnose it. The deceased was in an advanced stage of the disease when admitted to the hospital. A verdict v/aa returned thai death resulted from basal meningitis,
