AN "OLD BRIGADE"
SIXTH NEW ZEALAND MOUNTED RIFLES.
Once again the members of the Sixth New Zealand Mounted ilifles assembled last night .for their annual reunion. Mr. F. Beamish presided over a numerous gathering—men came together from all parts of the Dominion to renew old friendships, aud swop yarns about the days of 1901, when they left New Zealand some 500 strong. Many. of those who went away left their bones in South Africa, many of those who came back went to war again when the Huns sounded their challenge. Many of those, too, have not returned, and some of those who have come back won honours with the New Zealand Forces. It was a gathering that showed how close were the bonds that united the. men who wont on the great adventure to Africa in thosenow far off days. / the company, the Chairnumber of telegrams from 'Ws^"M?#*who were unavoidably absent, and who expressed deep regret at being unable to foregather with those who had once been their comrades in arms. The toast of the "Navy and Army" was proposed by Mr. F. K. Reeves, and responded to by Captain Salt, who retnarked incidentally that though the New Zealand soldier was a good fighter he was no better than the British soldier. In fact, they were all Britons together, and no distinction should bn rnaclt. Other toasts followed, and the even-, ing passed pleasantly with song and story, and some interesting remim'sences. The arangements were in the hands of the secretary, Mr. E. Taylor, and it proved a complete success.
