NEWSPAPER PRESS DIRECTORY
When the Newspaper Press Directory was issued fir3t, not a single daily paper was published in the United Kingdom outsido London. Even in_ Glasgow au advertiser could only press his wares upon the newspaper public three times a. week. The 1919 issue of the Newspaper Press Directory, -which is now before us, tells a very difl'ore'nt tnle. To-day, there are no fewer than 2269 newspapers in the United Kingdom, of which 30 dailies are issued in London, 119 in the English provinces, 19 in Scotland, and 16 in Ireland. AH the familiar features are to be found in tho 1919 issue of the Directory, which deals not only with the newspapers.of the Empire but of the world. The sections devoted to the newspaper' gazeteer appeal alike to the journalist, the newspaper proprietor, and tho advertiser seeking new markdts for his goods. The latter -are assisted by a series of well-informed and brightly-written articles upon imperial trade. Of special interest, is «in article on tho Ovorsca Trade Department of tho Board of Trade, written by tho late Mr. W R. Cairns, B.A. Sir Hugh EVasor contributes an illuminating article upon "Tho Legal Year in- its Relation to the Press." "Things that matter in Advertising" is a gossiping review of the whole field' of advertising interests at the end of a world war, while an article entitled "The Trend of tho Modern Press" does the same service for tho managerial side of Journalism.
