During the war, tho matter has not been pressed, as the committee considered that the necessary funds m Connection with the war, and war relief, were making heavy demands. Referring to tho question of contributions from the Mother Country, the writer »sfeß: r Are we to refuse to allow churchmen. in the. Old Country the privilege of helping us if they feol disposed tq do so? Wo are not only all ono Empire, but, ono Church. Nor should it be forgotten in regard to this objection, .that there are thousands of people in England drawingthoir incomes from money invested in New Zealand. Many of our companies and banks have their largest shareholders resident in England, and may we not invite such of thcjo as are churchpoople to contribute to tho cathedral? In connection ■ with this matter; it may be mentioned that the .Rev C. .F Askew has gone to England at hj« own expense. "Tho lack of proper headquarters will always bo a. source of weakness to the diocese. Wo must not look upon the cathedral as a mere building or glorified parish church; it is tiio church which contains the bishop's chair, the headquarters of the diocese." Suggestions have boon made by (ho executive of the Building Committee that, it is nece&sitry that a. paid organiser should bo appointed during the absonco of the Rev. C. F Askew, and that his Lordship tho Bishop should ask churchwardens and vestries of tho various parishes and uistricU to assign the collection on Peace Sunday to the Cathedral Fund. The Rev. W. Fancourt has consented to act as secretary to the executive until an organiser is appointed. A eub-commitboc!, to consist of Messta. W. E. Bcthimo, K. F. Hadiicld, A. 3D. Mabin, and J. W. Henderson, was appointed to report as to tho disposal or otherwise of the Taranaki-strcet property
