NIAGARA NOT FOE SYDNEY.
In all probability the Niagara will not proceed to Sydney from Auckland owing to the shipping trouble, but will remain at the northern port until the 10th June, when s]»a is, to sail for Vancouver. It is expected that the Moeraki, now at Auckland, will take the Niagara's passengers to Sydney, sailing to-mor-row.
KOHALA FOE EUEEKA,
To-morrow the barquentine Kohala is to leave Wellington for Eureka, California, She will load there for Sydney.
EXCITIHG RACE.
A San FraDcisco paper of unknown data says:—The British barque Antiope (Captain Campbell), which arrived yesterday afteriiou'i from Auckland, raced the last 200 miles o;' the jouraeI}l1}1 with the Japanese steamer Sjliinjo M.-iru, beating the steam freighter into tlio harbour yesterday afternoon by 20 minute.. Tile Antiope took advantage of the stilt southeast breeze oil' the Heads, and came into the harbour under her own sail.
A NEW CUNARDER.
The Cnhard Line lias ordered a passengut liner for the Atlantic trade from Messrs. Swai., Hunter, and Wigham Richardson, Ltd... ot. which the following particulars are publisher by the builders. The boat1 lias been numbere ' 1125, and is designed for first, second, an third-class accommodation. The particulars o-1 construction are: Length (b.p.), GOOft; breacic.;, (m.), 73ft Cm; depth (m.), «ft; with a displacement of about 12,500 tons. The engine., wilt be geared turbines, with s.h.p. of r.boi;. 12,500. iso. 2 berth in the Wallsend yar i . lias been allocated to the boat.
SALVAGING.
The salvage operations on the wreck of lh« Norwegian steamer Calanda, lying in de";> water at the entrance to Nagasaki harbr;;., are reported to be making good progress. "!;; dock fittings have nearly all been recovers . .and tho boilers were raised apparently ali! in serviceable condition." The Calanda v.a. sunk in collision with tiie N.Y.K.'s steamer isi' Maru, about twenty years ago, and lies ii. more than. 25 fathoms of water.
With a cargo of case oil the schooner King Lyons left SaD Francisco on the 16th May for Napier. For Dunediu direct the Jlokoia sailed from Wellington last evening. She is to leave the southern port on the return trip on Friday, callim; at Lytteltou. The vessel is due in Wellington on the Bth, and sails on the Dili for the Xorth. Norwegians are in pursuit of sailing tonnage (says an exchange), and during the re a number of French sailing ships had bee acquired. It is estimated approximately th:. some hundred sailers of various nationaliti; had been acquired by tho Norsk owners.
