The following statement, has been- handed to tho press by; Sir James Allen, Acting-Prime Minister: — "My attention has been, called to,a newspaper report th.it Messrs. C. J. Parr and Vernon Reed have bceu to Napier choosing a candidate for the next election. No authority for any such action has beou given by Mr. Massey, or by me as acting loader of the Reform Party in Mr. Massey'a absence. Tho compact entered into when tho National Government was formed is still in existence, arid will be maintained in its entirety so far as tho Reform Party is concerned until an announcement is made by their loader, after the return of Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward." It is generally understood that Messrs. Purr and Reed wore acting, not for the Reform Party, but for the new Progressive Party which is being formed.
