LEAGUE OF NATIONS
JAPAN WILL OBSERVE TEE COVENANT
BARON GOTO'S PRIVATE OPINION
(Received June 2, 9.20 a.m. NEW YORK, 20th May (delayed). The New York Times correspondent at Washington interviewed Baron Goto, who, speaking as a private citizen, said : "I do not believe there is a serious conflict of interests between Japan and the United States. Whatever misunderstandings exist can be cleared away by the leading men in both countries. I think the Japanese Government thinks the British-Japanese alliance should be continued for the preservation of peace in the Far East. The present conditions in Eastern Russia constitute .a danger to peace in tho Far East. The League of Notions Covenant may be imperfect, but I think if the. nations sincerely observe the provisions the peoples of - the world will derive much good. Japan' undoubt-edly-will, observe the provisions of the Covenant."
