Notwithstanding the fact that there are now four resident Judges in Wellington, the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), who has heard the great bulk of recent actions, has found it necessary to ask jurors to attend at the Supreme Court to-morrow (King's Birthday). It is pointed out that to many jurors the King's Birthday is an award holiday— one of the few they get in the year, and some of them are not a little displeased at the prospect of being compelled to spend the day in the rather gloomy precincts of tho Court.

Perhaps among the many presentations received by retiring Government officials none could equal that received by Mr. Hiley (General Manager of Railways) at a smoke concert on, Friday evening. In addition to three beauti-fully-bound volumes oE photographic views pertaining to the New Zealand Railways, was a writing desk made entirely of Now Zealand timber. The making the cabinet was entrusted to a superannuated member of tho Service, Mr, Renai, and the execution thereof was the admiration of those who had the pleasure of seeing it. Mr. H. J. Wynne (Signal aud Electrical engineer) was chairman of arrangements for the smoke concert, and Mr. H. M'Keowen (of the Chief Mechanical Enjrinoer'is staff) wae the secretary.
