REPRESENTATIVE "SOCCER"

The Basin Reserve, which has been closed to winter sports for some two years, will bo made available to Association football, and the public, on Tuesday next (the- King's Birthday), when a representative inter-provincial match between Canterbury and Wellington will be played. Canterbury is at present the holder of the much-coveted Brown Shield, and as the province will be represented by a strong eleven, the public can rely on witnessing a fast and interesting game. There have been played so far 22 matches: between the two provinces in all grades. Wellington has won 15 matches, lost 5, and drawn 2. The game is set down for 3 o'clock. Last year Wellington was beaten by Canterbury for the Brown Shield after a moat exciting tussle. In 1916 three games of all grades were played and won by Wellington. Likewise in 1917 four games of all grades' were played and won also by Wellington.

The Canterbury team will be as follows : Goal, G. Swift; full-backs, F. Graham and 'D. Lusk ; half-backs, J. Spencer, A. Mitchell, J. P. Flcod ; forwards, A. Lillburn, A. Bissett, E. J. Norman, E. Mahan, J. Frickleton. Reserves, F. Bennett (back), and E. Powell (forward). . The Second' Division representative team, which is to meet Wanfjairai on Tuesday, will leave by- tho New Plymouth "express at 5.20 o'clock an Monday morning.
