THE SAAR MINES
ALLIES* REPLY TO GERMAN NOTE EXPLOITATION PART OF REPARA- . TION POLICY. * (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLB ASSOCIATION.) PASIS, 25th May. The Allies' reply to Germany's Note on the Saar question points out that the exploitation of the mines is part of the general reparation, as well as reparation for the destruction of the French mines. The rsply denies that the inhabitants of the valley are -wholly German, and asserts that control would not be administered by the French, but by the League of Nations. Germany is also reminded that the inhabitants of the Saar Valley will be guaranteed certain social and fiscal liberties. The reply states, lastly, that with a view to avoiding misunderstanding, if Germany after the expiry of one year after the plebiscite has not effected the payments in gold, the League of Nations may revise the reparr ation plan, perhaps liquidating the outstanding amount with part of the mines.
