NOETHEEN STEAMSHIP COMPANY.

Inter alia, Mr. N. Alfred Nathan, chairman of directors ot the Northern Steamship Company, in his remarks at the annual. meeting at Auckland, said:—"The only serious accident to our vessels during this year was a fire which broke out on the auxiliary schooner Greyhound, while on a voyage to Hoiianga. The vessel had fortunately not proceeded very far, and was towed back to port. Both hull '.and cargo were extensively damaged, which , necessitated a general average adjustment. Repairs have been eilected, and the vessel is • again in seagoing trim. An addition to our fleet has to be recorded in the new scow Tuhoe, which we found it necessary to build for working shallow harbours on the east coast. The vessel, after a satisfactory trial, has been put in commission, and has met ail our re- ' quirements in regard to' draft and carrying ' capacity. We have every reason to think that she will prove a very useful addition to our fleet. An opportunity occurred of ac> '" quiring a property in Quay-street adjoining tho works of the TJnited Repairing Company, and we availed ourselves of it, as we consider it will prove a sound investment for the company."
