CROWN JEWELS,

QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. (Received February 14, 0.10 a.m.) LONDON, 13th February. In the House of Commons, Mr. Bit" rell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, replying to questions, said it was a particularly cruel outrage to associate Lord Haddo with the disappearance of the Crown Jewels from Dublin Castle. Lord Haddo was absent from Ireland months before and after the robbery. < [Lord Haddo is the eldest son and heir of the Earl of Aberdeen. The mystery of disappearance from Dublin Castle of the State Jewels of tho Order of St. Patrick has never been explained. On the eve of the departure of King Edward and Queen Alexandra for Dublin in July, 1907, it was discovered that the jewels, valued ~at £50,000, had been stolen. In the enquiry which followed, Sir Arthur Vicars, Ulster King of Arms, stated in his evidence before the commission, that, he suspected Mr. Francis R. Shackleton, whose office (Dublin Herald) tanked next to that of the wit- • ness. He implied that, while Mr. Shackleton was a guest at his house, he took impressions of the keys while his host waa taking a bath. A detective, howeverj found that there was no case against Mr. Shackleton, and the commission, on hearing the evidence, completely exonerated him. > On a rearrangement of the Office of Arms, Captain N* R. Wilkinson succeeded Sir A. Views, while Mr. G. O'Grady took the place of Mr. Shackieton.] '
