WORK AT THE ABATTOIRS
There were slaughtered at the muni' cif-ul abattoirs during December 51 cows, 478 bullocks, 3 Dulls, 4007 sheep. 2236 lambs, and 116 calves. Of these 4 cows, 1 bull, 16 bullocks, and 11 Bheep were condemned as unfit for human consumption. Fees received on slaughtering were £160 0s lO^d, an increase of £5 19s 5d on November returns. From the meat works £124 14s 2d was received, an increase of 5d only. This is for meat sold within the abattoir area. Sale of offal amounted to £160 6s lOd, an increase of £14 7s 2d for December. The stock slaughtered for the month was of prime quality, with the exception of 3 bulls which were slaughtered for boning, boned beef being an article of export and eagerly purchased by the poor of Glasgow, Liverpool, and other large cities of, the United Kingdom.
