INSURANCE PICNIC

k The annual picnics held in connec tion with the Fire, Marine, and Accident Insurance Companies in Wellington, at Day's Bay on Tuesday, was most successful. The arrangements left-nothing to. bo. desired, and the oilting will long be remembered with pleasure, by all who were present. Messrs. A. Blair and R. J. White, chairman and deputy-chairman of the Wellington , Association, respectively; 'acted a§ judges, Mr. Archer as starter, and Mr. J. S. Stevenson carried out the duties of secretary. The only toast was that of "The King,' proposed by Mr. Blair. The prizes were presented by Mrs. Blair. The sports resulted as fbllowd: — "Electric Light "• handicap, for juniors, 100 yds. —-V. Ward (Ocean) 1, Wilkos (South Biitish) 2. "Contiguity " three-legged race, 100 yds. — Cray (Northern) and Collins. " Fire Boards" driving competition, 100 yds. — Kirby and Miss Warren. "Reinsurance " relay race, 300yds.— Pool, Johnston, and Midlane.. (Ocean team). "Mixed Construction" egg and spoon I'ace, 60yds (ladies) .-"Miss Warren 1> Miss Horton 2. "All. Risks" Eack race, 50yds.— Stace (Ocean) 1, V. Waid (Ocean) 2. " Tariff Breakers' " wheelbarrow race,' 75yds. --"-Davis and Kirby. "Duchess Canter," for ladies, 50yds. — Miss Hardwick 1, Miss Carter 2. "General Average" needle-threading race, 150yds.— Smyth and Miss Davi3. A managers bowling tourney was won by Messrs. Hammond and Tattle, and a tennis tourney (combined doubles) by Misses Halley and Pam, and Messrs. Brown and T. Ward. ' The Picnic Committee consisted of Messrs. A. H. Hollis (chairman), M. Archer, B. Balharry, T. Hood, G. H. Jackson^ W. Ncrrie, E. B. Vance, and J. S. Stevensdn (hon. secretary); starter, Mr. B. Balhawy.
