INTER-PROVINCIAL CRICKET
At^the usiTal meeting of the Wellington, Cricket Association last week, it was decided to write to the Canterbury Association asking if the latter body would accept 15th, 17th, and 18th February for a match at Christchurch. At the same time Canterbury tfas asked whether, in return, for the proposed match, they would visit here on ISth March. The Canterbury Association, however, views this suggestion with disfavour, as the following letter received from the secretary at .the meeting of the Wellington Association on Tuesday would indicate : "My association prefers that no match be played with Wellington this season for the following Tea^ons: (1) That the Auckland Association" have agreed to come south next season to bring the agreed scheme into operation in accordance with the arrangements carried out by the conference in July last; (2) that it is, therefore, essential that the Wellington team should come south and play Canterbury and Otago next season to? bring the scheme :ifto operation." The eecretary quoted a letter from the Wellington Association to the Canterbury Association dated 20th November, in which it wne stated that Wellington could not fulfil the engagement with Canterbury at Christchurch this season; The Chairman, after explaining tho position, stated that Wellington were Under an obligation to Canterbury, and he considered that they should make the trip south this season without expecting a return visit. After some dkcussiott it was decided to challenge Canterbury for the Plunket Shield, the match to take place during the Easter holidays.
