He was not able to discuss the merits or demerits of the case, but ho, did think that small as the matter in' dispute Was, it would be more economical to settle it—he believed in a few minutes-^in the way suggested than by Commission, which would mean the calling of a great deal of evidence and the consumption of much time. Several councillors expressed themselves as beina quite satisfied to have the niattei 1 gorie into by ' Commission. The Chairman thanked Mr. Stephen' son * for his attendance, and informed him that the council would consider his proposal, "and inform him of its decision. An old retaining wail near Mr. Milne's place had be,en carried away, and the road at that point was now in danger- of sharing a similar fate Unless attended to before the '-wintel'. Th4f bridge on Main-road 'at £tokes?s Valley needed redecking, and he had ordered a quantity of planking for the purpose. Numerous enquiries had been made as to when the temporary bridge on the western side of Paekakariki Hill was to be done away with, the angle being so acute that it was considered dangerous.
