A short sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held .before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., to-day. Two first offenders, for drunkenness, were convicted and discharged. Henry Stanley, on a charge of drunkenness, was fined 10s,' in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Normal! Campbell, charged with being drunk during the currency of a prohibition order, pleaded guilty, and asked for leniency, stating that ho would leave the city. It was said that there were many convictions against «the accused, who had been twide at Roto Roa. A sentence of two months' imprisonment was imposed. , Einilo Alexander Menzies was charged with having redeived the sum of £6 17s Gd on behalf of_ the Union Steam Ship Cojnpatiy ami with fraudulently failing to pay the same to the company/ Chief-Detective Broberg said this was one of a ■number of charges to be prefeired against the accused, and lig asked for a vemaud to Dunedin on 13th February, The remand wai granted.
