A shrew'd^ idea for indicating to the public of Manly which of the local shopkeepers had contributed to the fund necessary for making a recent carnival a success is described by Mr. H. M. Rayward, who returned to Wellington from Sydney 011 Wednesday. The committee issued an attractive card for display in shop windows, intimating to the public that the proprietor was a subscriber to the carnival fund. Mr. Rayward says the public, which derived great enjoyment from the week's festival, appeared to recognise, by their preference, those shopkeepers who weie assisting in a practical way to make the carnival the great success that it was.
