♦ '.■ ■ . TO-DAY'S BUSINESS. The United Methodist Conference resumed its session this morning, -the Bey. S. Lawry being in" the chair. ALTERATIONS OF CIRCUITS. On the recommendation of the > Union Committee tb,e following proposed . divisions of circuits were adopted: — Auckland District;— Upper 1 Thames : Matamata, JValton, - Waharoa, , Mangawhero, Turangaomoana, Putaruvu, Tapapa, Hinuera Valley, Tifau, and Okauia.be "bo separated from the Upper Thames circuit; and constituted a separate home mission station. ■ Wanganui District. — Palmerston North : That the Palmerston ' North circuit be divided as follows :-^-(l) Palmerston North (Broad-street) to consist,of St. Paul's, Ashhurst; Pobangiria, and • Stoney . Creek, with a' married minister and a probationer; (2) Palmerstpn North (Cuba-street) to, consist of .Cubastreet, Bunny thorpe, \ and . Longburn, withf one^ married minister. Canterbury District. — Christchurch (Durham-street) : That the circuit be divided 'as follows : — (1) Christchurch (Durham-street) ;' (2) Christchurch Central' Methodist Mission, to consist of Durham-street et&tion and High-street rhu'rehes aud' a rented central hall, with i' married minister ;■■ (3) Christchurch Past, to' comprise East' 'Belt, 'Richmond, New Brighton,' Linwood, \Vin"dsor, and Marshlands Churches, with • a married minister, fwo -probationers, and % * home ' missionary ; (4) - Christchurch (Woolston), to - comprise 'Woolston. Opawa, Heathcote ' Valley, Sumner, and Redcliffs, " with a married minister and •mother agent. ■ Kaiapoi : That the Kaiapoi circuit be divided, as follows: — (1) Kaiapoi, to - consist of Kaiapoi, Clarkville, and Coutts's ' Island, with 'a married minister ; (2) Ohaka, to' consist of Ohaka, Swannanoa, JElprrelville, and East Eyreton, , with a married minister • to., reside at v Ohaka r (the present, Kaiapoi circuit' to hand over not less thai £350 towards providing a parsonage for the new circuit," and 'to contribute £10 per annum for five years to :the. Ohaka circuit.) _ . In" respect .to the Rangiora. circuit the committee Was, on -its own recommendation, reappointed i for another year, and it was agreed . that a grant be made in the meantime to j the Amberley and Rangiora circuits.' Otago District. — Dunedin (Cargillroad) : That St. Kilda and. Broad Bay be sej.3 rated . f rona the Cargill-road, circuit, with a married minister. . •A, report from/.the Home Mission Committee respecting the retirement of Mr. Qittos (referred to in another * column) was presented by the- Rev. C.' H. Laws. The report included the following'resplutipns^which Were carried) : (1) That 'the Tequest of the- Bev. W. Gittc* to 'become supernumerary ■be complied ■ with ; (0) that no -successor be appointed to* the offica'ot' Superintendent of 'Maori Missions; (3) that. the Rev.sT. O. Brooke, organising secretary of home , missions^ undertake the super vising and organising of ,the ' Northern Maori Mission, with the Rev. W. Gittos as his kindly adviser ; (4) That Rev. T. G. Brookeretain his present office, ■ but that the schedule of ditties be suspended for -the present year, and that Mr. Brooke devote to the Maori, Mission such portion of his time as may seem right to him after consultation 'with Mr. ' Gittos and the executive; (5) that the salary and .allowance of- the Rev. , T. G. 'Brooke remain as at' present, and that, the Rev. W. GHtos receive ,an honorarium of £100' a year and £40 travelling allowance. , .
• To-day Detectives Rawle and Cameron arrested ' a man named ' Emilio Arthur Alexander Menzies, who was formerly a purser in the employ of the Union Steam Ship Company, on a charge of having, on 22nd May of last year, received the Bum ; of £6 17s 6d on terms requiring the same to be paid to the ■company, and having fraudulently omitted to do so. The charge is one of a number . which will be preferred, against the accused, who will be , brought • before the Court to-morrow, when probably, a remand to Duuodin will be. aaked fpr t
